Int Workshop in Erfurt
Went for two weeks to Erfurt to a great workshop. Topic: Muslims in the West. Around 25 people from roughly 10 countries took part and we had interesting and sometimes really tough discussions. All in all it was a great experience and a we had soo much fun and learned a lot

Project
Our Businessplan group consisted of Emma (Sweden), Barry (Scotland), Thomas (Austria) and me (guess). After a sluggish start we got really into the project and spent nights and days on it. Did not get much sleep in the nights before the deadline... But somehow we managed it to get quite good marks for the plan itself and the presentation.

Der Lohn der Muehen
Nun gabs endlich die Noten fuer unseren Businessplan zurueck.
19 out of 20 for the presentation and 18 out of 20 for the plan. All the long nights without food, lots of stress and all the effort got rewarded. Those marks count for 40 % of our final mark, so that is a good motivation for next week's exams.
By the way, got two of them on one day, 3 h each and 2 h break in bewtween. Look forward to that.

Blogging from the front: update
It's 5:56 and Thomas and I are still sitting in the f*** computer room. We survive on Snickers and Water. Got it nearly done now. More than 30 pages, but still messy. We'll have another night or two to make it perfect.
Will get up at 8 for lectures later, that's at least the plan......

Blogging from the front
We just sit the second consecutive night in the computer room and try to finish our project, the businessplan. Its nice if you leave the flat in the morning around 9 and come back in the night at around 2, just to leave at 9 again....
But we have fun (sometimes) and everything should be done by tomorrow, so a external person can check it. The academical deadline is next week. We have over 8000 words until now, but only 3000 are allowed. So we will have a long appendix....
On the weekend we have to do the final layout. But we have just MSOffice, I don't know if we can make a nice layout and handle 30 pages with word...
Any other suggestions?

Buecher
Habe nun alle meine Buecher zusammen:
Englisch Buch fuer 15£
Startup Buch fuer 25£
Marketing Buch 35£
Thesaurus+Lex 15£
Das sind alleine fuer nen paar Buecher 90£ (130€). Aber in so nem Buch hier sind auch viele Bildchen, Graphiken, etc. drinne.
Kopieren geht leider auch nicht, denn zum einen ist das nicht erlaubt (das waere ja egal, darf man bei uns ja auch nicht) und zum anderen ist das auch nicht billiger. Ne Kopie in der Bib kostet 7p (ca. 10 cent) und mit ner Kopierkarte dann immer noch so um die 5 cent. Das macht echt keinen Spass.....
Jetzt koennt ihr euch auch denken, was der Rest hier so kostet.....

Fuenfter Kurs
War heute in New Venture Creation. Sehr interessant, sogar in der Vorlesung wurde diskutiert. Kann nur noch nicht alle meine Gredanken richtig ausdruecken, da fehlt mir einfach der Wortschatz und die Routine. Aber gesagt hab ich trotzdem was.....
3 h Vorlesung hintereinander und dann noch alle zwei Wochen nen Tutorium wegen dem Businessplan. Das sind dann schon wieder 15 Credits. Der Lecturer ist wieder ne Frau Dr., sowas gibts hier irgendwie oefters als bei uns. Und zum ersten Mal muss man sich richtig konzentrieren, um die Sprache zu verstehen. Aber es geht doch insgesamt besser als erwartet.

Vierter Kurs
Hatte heute meine erste richtige Translation Stunde, German-English Translation Class 1 fuer native speakers of German. Letzte Woche hatten wir nur einen Text als Hausaufgabe bekommen, heute gab's diese zurueck und ich hab ne 13. Ist gar nicht so leicht nen Text vom deutschen ins englische zu uebersetzen.....
Dann haben wir den Text (Spiegelartikel) Satz fuer Satz uebersetzt und man sieht dann wie viele Moeglichkeiten es doch gibt etwas zu uebersetzen. Und ein falsches Wort kann nen ganzen Satz versauen...
Naja, fuer naechste Woche ist dann ein Text von Siegfried Lenz dran. Oh mein Gott...

Dritter Kurs
Bin danach dann spontan in den Strategic Marketing Kurs gegangen. Diesmal nur so 40-50 Leute. 3 h Vorlesung plus alle zwei Wochen ne Casestudy. Das sind dann auch wieder 15 ECTS-points.
Der Lecturer ist nen richtiger Prof aus Amerika. Anfangs der Stunde gabs erstmal nen Marketingquiz, welches zwei "Freiwillige" machen durften. Der Rest der Klasse hat zugeschaut und teilweise geholfen. Als Belohnung gabs dann fuer die zwei ne Schoko. Danach hat der Prof erstmal ein paar Stellenangebote aus Zeitungen vorgelsesen, damit man mal sieht, was man mit Marketing alles machen kann.
Hier die Anforderungen des Kurses:
· A statement of personal/professional objectives for the Course.
· Read and submit ten article summaries from current research or professional literature reviews or journals.
· Submit a current curriculum vitae.
· Preparing a summary critique or marketing plan for a successful product, service or idea or critique and analysis of a failure for a product, service or idea.
· Complete and submit two assignments: 1) Marketing Information and Research; 2) a Marketing Communication activity.
· Complete tutorial Case assignments including a group presentation and discussion of an assigned case.
Das sieht nach Arbeit aus, und eigentlich will ich den Kurs nicht machen (macht mir meine freien Tage kaputt und ich weiss nicht, ob ich ihn mir anrechnen lassen kann), aber Marketing ist einfach so cool.
Zweiter Kurs
War heute bei meiner ersten richtigen Vorlesung, Organisational Change
2 h Vorlesung und 2 h Tutorium, welches dann insgesamt 15 ECTS Punkte gibt.
Sehr cooler Kurs, mehrere Guestspeaker. Dazu denn ne Groupwork, die 20% der Note ausmacht. Irgenden Thema bearbeiten und dann vortragen...
Naja, Problem heute war, dass der Raum (mit gepolsterten Stuehlen und 2 Seiten mit tausenden Buechern bestuckt) fuer 50 Studies ausgelegt ist und doppelt so viel da waren. Also wurde die Vorlesung spontan in zwei einstuendige identische Vorlesungen gesplittet. Dazu kam extra die Chefin der Fakultaet her, um uns das zu sagen. Sie hat sich sehr dafuer entschuldigt und uns feur naechste Woche nen groesseren Raum versprochen. (Sowas gaebe es bei uns nicht)
Die Dozentin is ne Frau Dr. und relativ jung und sehr motiviert. Wir wurden in die Vorlesung mit einbezogen, nen dumpfes dasitzen und anwesend sein gibt es nicht. Jeder kann mitmachen. (sowas gaebe es bei uns auch nicht)

Erster Kurs
Hatte heute meinen ersten Kurs. Er bringt mir 15 Creditpoints und ist nen Englischkurs fuer Auslaender. Sehr unterschiedliche Level der Leute, aber ne richtig gute Lehrerin, sehr sympathisch, obwohl Englaenderin. *g*
Aber typisch schottischer Kurs. Wir muessen naemlich nicht nur ne Klausur schreiben, nein es werden auch drei Essays o.ä. und ein Vokabelheft bewertet. Wir sollen also ein Heft anlegen, in dem wir nach irgendnem intelligenten System unsere Vocs reinschreiben und dann abgeben.
Dazu kommt noch, dass wir jede Woche ein Kapitel von unserem Buch lernen sollen und die Aufgaben dazu loesen sollen. Dies soll sich alles auf sieben zusaetzliche Stunden summieren, abgesehen von den drei Stunden Unterricht.
So zumindest die Theorie dazu.....

Courses
I signed up for three courses. New Venture Creation, Organisational Change and an English Course.
It was virtually possible to sign up for any course, but we actually had only the choice between 4 management courses (all 3... Courses).
I can acess all the data about these courses in my webct. All relevant data and course materials are acessible in that system. There’s also a list with all students for every course. Nice system!!

Soc&Sports Fayres
I've been in that Fayres on Tuesday and Wednesday. They took place in the Gallowgat Union, a huge Complex owned by the Student Association. On Tuesday was the Soc (societies) Fayre, where all socs and a couple of companies and clubs introduced themselves to the Freshers. It was just jammed and music was all over the place, with each club trying to play the loudest and best music.
There are so many socs (Whisky society, First Aid Society, Chinese soc, international soc, gaelic soc, history soc, road trio soc,....
On Wednesday was the Sports Fayre. Even before you could go in there, "kangaroos" (which are students in kangaroos costumes, cause there are no kangaroos in Scotland) were stopping all the traffic, crazy people with mobile loudspeakers were talking things, you didn'd understand, cause everybody was shouting at the same time. Inside, all the sports socs introduced themselves. So people were walking around in their sports cloth and gave lots of flyers away. I was interested in the orienteering soc, the tennis soc, the walking/mountaineering soc and the diving soc, but didn't sign up for anything yet.
After those two days I got 13 plasticbags, 5 rulers, 3 plastic club-ID-cards (you need these to get in some clubs), 9 biros, 1 shaver, 2 washing detergent tabs, 2 condoms, 7 lollies, dozens of free beers (but only if I go in that clubs) and just lots of paper.........
These events are very important, cause most of the free time will be spent in the socs and so the exchange between undergrads and postgrads is much better.
We should have something like that in Germany, how's that in Canada and in other places???

Online!!
As you can see, I'm online now. There are plenty of computers all over, but no connections available at the halls. So I have to exchange all data between tha laptop and the net with disks. Great!! But I got a phone in my flat, that's at least something.
