Hitting the road again
I know I havnīt written in a long time. But now it is time to leave ATL again and move on. Before returning home for good, Iīll travel around the States quit a bit.
In a few hours I fly to Boston via Memphis, Kansas City and Milwaukee and stay there for 5 days. After that, I continue to New York where I will stay another five days. From there on Iīll take the train to Chicago where I will have a 5 hours stopover before riding for another 50 hours to San Francisco. Two days over there and then the plane back to ATL via Las Vegas and Phoenix.
If you have a look at the map, the routing looks weird, but I wanna see as much as possible, and a the trainride from coast to coast is something I really look forward to, although 70 hours on AMTRAK are not gonna be my most comfortable 70 hours...
Try to report more from the trip on the way, but Iīm pretty excited and look forward to see more than just the Southern part of the USA.

Florida
Florida ist wohl Republikanisch. Nun hoffen wir noch auf Ohio. 5 Stunden seit den ersten Hochrechnungen ist es immer noch unklar, wer gewinnt. Aber es sieht nicht mehr so gut aus wie vorher. Also, weiter Daumen druecken.
und weiter..
Dat wird ne lange nacht. aber bis jetzt hat anscheinend noch keiner beschissen. In 10 min kommen neue Ergebnisse raus, incl. Ohio and Florida. Aber in California und anderen Staaten wird immer noch gewaehlt.

The day
Sehr verrueckt, Election day. Ueberall stehen die Leute teilweise seit 6 am vor den Wahllokalen, nur um Ihre Stimmen abzugeben. Die Schlangen werden laenger und laenger und wann die Wahllokale schliessen ist auch nicht klar. Ab 7pm darf sich keiner mehr anstellen, aber bis die Schlangen abgearbeitet sind wird es noch einige Zeit dauern.
Grad gestern wurden Leute noch angerufen, um sie zu den Wahlen zu bewegen. Heute sieht man zig Leute mit Schildern auf den Strassen um die Leute ans waehlen zu erinnern. Und dabei weiss keiner, wann die Wahl entschieden ist. Wahrscheinlich dauert es noch ein paar Tage / Wochen bis die Anwaelte und Richter sich auf das Resultat geeinigt haben.
Insgesamt ist die Wahl sehr emotional, viel staerker als bei uns und der Split geht genau durch die Mitte.
Also Daumen druecken, dass das heute alles relativ gut verlaeuft.

Washington
Off for a long weekend to Washington. Great place, lots of amazing building, especially the museums and the monuments. Saw the White House, the Capitol and other major sights.. Didn't see Bush so far, will try it tomorrow.
If anyone has good ideas what else to do....

Dritte Debatte war wieder sehr interessant, aber nach ner Weile habe die zwei sich wiederholt und immer wieder Ihre Hauptbeschuldigungen wiederholt. Bush war dieses Mal ehrlich gesagt sehr gut vorbereitet und hat sich wacker geschlagen, aber Kerry war mindestes genaus gut.
Ab jetzt wirds so richtig spannend und der gesamte Wahlkampf wird sich wohl auf ein paar ket states konzentrieren. In den meisten Staaten ist schon relativ sicher wie gewahlt wird, deswegen sind es zwischen 3 und 10 Staaten, die dieses Rennen entscheiden. Florida ist einer davon......, aber die Geschichte kennen wir ja schon.

Had good fun on all these events. The best thing was, everything was for free. :-)

Und die naechste Runde..
Kerry war eigentlich wieder klar besser und Bush wieder der gleiche Simpel wie sonst auch. Ich wuerde ja sagen, dass Kerry auch gestern wieder klar gewonnen hat, aber die Erwartungen an Kerry waren so hoch, dass die Medien gestern eher ein Patt als ein Sieg gesehen haben....
Es bleibt spannend und hat hoffentlich ein gutes Ende!!

Gestern war hier das Duell zwischen Kerry und Bush. Es war herrlich und Kerry hat klar gewonnen und in fast allen Punkten ueberzeugt. Die Republikaner sehen das natuerlich anders, aber das ist ja klar. Das Problem ist nur, dass die Meinungsmache erst so richtig durch die Medien kommen, die die Debatte auswerten. Dadurch koennte das Ergebnis wieder etwas verzerrt werden, denn die Republikanischen Medien sind doch relativ stark hier und ne ganze Menge Menschen koennen sich kein eigenenes Bild machen.

Westin

Went out to the Westin, the highest hotel building in the Western world, with a rotating top. Amazing, and we saw the ATL from above.

Parking: I have no idea who will be awarded as the parker of the month. Anyway, the parking slots are much bigger than back home. We parked with our car in a slot usable "only for small cars". The ones for "normal cars" are double the size as in Europe.

Input on that Saturday: ca 1 gallon Coke and around 30 other soft drinks per person (free tasting at the World of Coca Cola and free refill in the Cinema), 1 huge bag of popcorn (unlimited refill), 1 Cheeseburger Menu...
Result: I was still sick on the next day.

Ivan the terrible
Hier herrscht totales Chaos und der Ausnahmezustand wurde ausgerufen. Hier kommt anscheinend der halbe Himmel runter und ganze Stadtteile sind unter Wasser und ohne Strom. Dabei hat uns der Hurricane noch gar nicht erreicht. Auf dem Rueckweg von der Arbeit heute sind wir durch reinste Fluten gefahren. Das Wasser kam von allen Seiten und nach etlichen Pfuetzen haben wir ne komplette Unterbodenwaesche bekommen. Als wir dann endlich in der Tiefgarage angekommen sind waren wir heilfroh. Bis Montag is in Georgia der Ausnahmezustand erklaert und das obwohl ausser (viel) Regen und ein paar Tornados nicht viel los ist. An der Golfkueste dagegen ist Land unter, allerdings nicht so schlimm wie befuerchtet. Letzte Woche sind wir noch mit unserem Mobil gemuetlich entlang der Kueste gefahren und haben uns bei bestem Wetter amuesiert.

Off again
Leaving Germany for good again. Flying to Atlanta tomorrow, a 10 hour flight, but only 4 hours on the clock... But not gonna start to work before Monday, so I should be alright until then.
Should I continue to use this blog from there, what do you reckon...
